Since COVID-19 has us Stay at Home a lot of us are missing our favorite cocktails.
Don’t know how many of you miss your bartenders but feel free to give them a shout out in the comments section. They deserve it!
But life goes on and we still need our favorite cocktails.
The big question is how to make your favorite cocktail with minimal complexity and time?
Buying the right cocktail mixes and liqueurs and additionally measuring and blending the ingredients can be challenging.
Here are a few easy-to-make cocktails with basic ingredients and effort.
Guidelines to Stay at Home cocktails.
The key here is to keep it simple and never use more than 3/4 ingredients excluding ice.
From the feedback received many people want to make Bloody Marys, Brandi Manhattans, and Margaritas at home.
Bloody Mary is easy but the other two can get a little tricky.
Also including a fun Rum and Gin based cocktail.
Starting with Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary is the easiest to make, mix your favorite vodka with a bloody mary mix of your choice.
Pour 1.50 oz of vodka into a tall glass filled with ice, and top with bloody mary mix.
Garnish can be celery, carrot, pickle, olives, bacon, or anything you choose.
If you’ve had enough of the Bloody Mary and are craving a change, simply switch to a Screwdriver.

Vodka and orange juice.
Fill a glass with ice and pour 1.50 oz of Vodka and top with orange juice
Garnish with orange slice, maraschino cheery, or a sprig of rosemary for flavor (completely optional)
Next up Margaritas
Margaritas are not necessarily difficult to make if you have a cocktail shaker at home.
Shake all ingredients over ice and empty it into a margarita glass.
If you don’t have a shaker at home, you could use a blender.
Instead of a margarita on rocks, you can simply enjoy a frozen margarita.
To simplify the process, use any brand of tequila, orange liqueur, and sweet & sour.
You can make sweet and sour at home by mixing lemon juice, lime juice, water, and simple syrup.
Or buy a bottle of sweet & sour from the stores.
Fill a margarita glass with ice and add
1.50 oz of tequila
.75 oz orange liqueur (Triple Sec, Cointreau or any brand is fine)
1.50 oz of fruit mix
.75 oz of sweet & sour
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and empty it into a margarita glass with a salt rim. (optional)
The same ingredients can be blended for a frozen margarita.
Building the drink in the Margarita glass helps give the right consistency to the drink.
Not too thick or runny and perfect for the straw.
Additionally, the orange liqueur is used to make Sangrias.
Use 4 oz of red or white wine, 2 oz of fruit mix of your choice, .50 oz orange liqueur, and shake over ice.
Empty into glass and enjoy, no need to strain.
Berry mix goes well with red wine and light fruit mixes like strawberry, grapes, and peaches go well with white wine.
Whisky Manhattan
2 oz whisky
1 dash of bitters
.50 oz sweet vermouth (Any Brand)
Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a glass
Top with a splash of soda (optional)
Or just build a Manhattan over ice
Fill a whisky glass with ice add above ingredients and stir
Garnish with cherries and a slice of orange
No shake No Strain just enjoy!
Brandy can be substituted for whisky
Sweet Vermouth blends well with any spirit, gin, bourbon and even tequila.
Lime garnish goes well with all these drinks.
Negroni for Gin Lovers
1 oz of Gin
1 oz of sweet vermouth
1 oz Campari
Fill an old fashioned glass with ice, pour all ingredients and stir with spoon.
Do not shake
Garnish with orange peel
Campari-Orange is a popular Italian aperitivo and enjoyed before a meal as an appetite stimulant.
The recipe calls for equal parts of Campari and orange juice, but since Campari is naturally bitter more orange juice would make it sweeter.
Mojito Rum based Cuban Cocktail
Mojito is really a cool drink and one of the best ways to enjoy Rum in a cocktail
2.oz White Rum
1 dash Simple Syrup
4 mint leaves
3 fresh cut lime wedges
Blue berries (optional)
Club/Plain Soda
Gently crush 4 mint leaves in the palm of your hand and drop into a tall glass
Squeeze & drop three lime wedges into the glass
Add a few blue berries
Fill the Glass with ice
Add Rum, simple syrup and top with soda
Garnish with lime
Enjoy
Cointreau, Sweet Vermouth, and Campari are good buys and are commonly used in many cocktails.
Fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, peaches, and melons are great choices for your fruit mix.
Lastly, while we are hunkered down at home, eating healthy food is important.
We often tend to eat more while we drink, which is not healthy.
No doubt eating food while drinking slows the rate of alcohol absorption, but can also add a few pounds.
Here is an alternative, a protein bar, that can help reduce alcohol absorption with fewer calories.
